Moscow via Quebec [cont'd]
Five years of work were to finally be the headliner for the Tchekhov International Theatre Festival. You do not go to Russia that easily. Same for the equipment! Our audio and video 300 kg assorted cases went back home in Québec BEFORE our departure because of customs... even with the ATA carnet! We had to rethink our rigs and select the ultra minimum and split the equipment with our 4 tech crew, trading personal apparel for AV recording gear... We prayed we could find standard equipment in Moscow. We knew the Festival could not even confirm a single regular multi-pair cable...
We rush ordered 2 InstaSnake kits for my 8 channels recording rig and 2 AV902 baluns for backstage action remote camera. Never tried before!
Going through customs in SVO had been tedious and quite costly but we made it! It took us 4 days to source some working equipment, thanks to the very fine people from the Tchekhov Festival. Thank you Valery. We had to cut once again in our requirement. I found a spool of white shielded Cat6 in a "surplus store" and I had my crimper. A few hours later, we had working systems to the surprise of many, including our Director with the picture quality of over 500' cabling on the remote cam. All my audio sources were clean and detailed for multiple pristine recordings... Interfacing with the local audio systems proved different but good collaboration and hard work made it. We went back home with solid material and 12 months of editing to go!
Guess what! I sold one InstaSnake kit to the technical director at the Tchekhov. You have a very proud owner-user in Russia! And a big thanks to John Vellone, Director, Erikson Commercial.
