There are several products in the ETS InstaSnake product series serving the audio industry. In its simplest form, it is two small boxes, slightly under 4”x 3” x 2”, each not much larger than a deck of playing cards. Four microphones are plugged into the first box along with a length of Category5 data cable. The other end of the CAT5 cable plugs into the second box with the 4 microphone cables going from the second box to the sound system. The Category5 cable is a lightweight, inexpensive cable that will run audio signals up to 2,000 feet in length eliminating the need for costly, bulky coaxial cable.
Standard microphone cables are susceptible to noise and interference and the probability increases as the length of the cable increases. For this reason, most professional recording studios strive to keep microphone cables under 20 feet in length. Although a 1,000 foot microphone cable is possible, often many audio installers avoid longer distances because of the possibility of noise interference and capacitance will load the cable down considerably with the increased distance.
However in the many tests and field applications, it has been proven the ETS InstaSnake gives a clean noise free signal up to 2,000 feet. Looking at the weight factor - four 1,000 foot microphone cables weigh 194 pounds as opposed to 28 pounds for a single 1,000 foot data cable. In addition there is an added plus with the cost-saving factor. Easy portability is another.
